Our Work

The importance of truly professional and best in class hotel & resort photography cannot be emphasized enough when it comes to creating an emotional connection with hotel shopping consumers. The impact on booking results when best in class imagery is used is dramatically stronger than when average and below average imagery is used to market any property.

Our work focuses on presenting your property accurately and in the best way possible. Just compare images you see in our portfolio section to anything you find on various hotel sites that have not engaged professional hospitality photographers and the side by side results require no additional discussion.

What does work

  • Images that capture reality – perfectly! Ones that use ambient light as the main light and flash as basic undetected fill, basically creating and delivering upon sincere reality at its best
  • Composition, exposures and subject matter that talk to viewers, that command attention, that pull viewers into the image. All because the connect on an emotional level, they spark viewers imagination that they want to be present in that image, an experiential reaction
  • Images that properly balance light, shadows, and accurate color to communicate mood, texture, all trigger all sensory reactions.
  • Creating “wow” moments in time, turning ordinary into extraordinary, making an image that becomes a story teller to viewers all because of the way the scene and lighting walks the viewer’s eye through the image.
  • Images that outperform all others when it is time for a hotel shopping consumer to make a booking decision.

What does not work

We have been marketing hotels for more than 25 years and seen every imaginable quality level of hotel photos. Here are some examples that happen with alarming frequency

  • Hotel employee creates some mobile phone snaps and thinks they look awesome ??
  • Someone knows someone who owns a “nice” camera and will do the hotel a favor ??
  • A photographer who has never shot interiors, architecture, food, etc. nor do they even own the correct equipment for this work (i.e. no experience / wrong equipment) states they can handle this work and create a few snaps??
  • Someone represents themselves as a hotel photographer, hotelier does not do full due diligence – images come back with every amateur problem

    • Exposures are off and the same for colors looking more like and Instagram filter than reality
    • Excessive distortion – walls, edges, and all verticals looking like they were shot via a fun house mirror – nothing shows correctly – hence the image has no credibility
    • Excessive wide angle shots from weird angles – again the perfect recipe for distortion and complete undermining of credibility – images have no relationship to reality
    • Excessive Photoshop post processing in the name of cartoon art –over saturated colors take on the appearance on neon glows, so called HDR effects have muddied clarity (planned grit) and sci-fi white ghosting shadows, basically these images just scream everything here is fake!
    • Excessive use of flash lighting – nuke for max brightness – then not noticing that the harsh unnatural shadows from everything are the dominate visual, and the interior of the room is now 3x brighter that the window view on a sunny day at 12 noon?

In short, the process of creating best in class hospitality imagery is an art form, something that very few have mastered.

Yet amazingly and very wrongly many believe the process is about having an expensive camera, pushing the shutter button at a lucky moment, having all other conditions and the stars luckily aligned to get a special “wow” image. Not amazing at all, that great artistic photographers who have dedicated their focus and their career to mastering hospitality photography create “wow” images every day as this is their sole focus, they are true pros, and they are extremely passionate about creating best in class hospitality images.

We realize, that the above points describe a lot of abstract concepts (like most forms of true art) – so instead on getting hung up on the descriptive words, just do what the average hotel shopping consumer does and browse our online portfolio. Please be prepared to be inspired and impressed!

This is what true professional hospitality photography is all about, contact us today to learn more about how we can make your property look its very best!
